Fire up the Grill for the Fourth!

Celebrate Independence Day with a twist on a grilling classic….Parmesan Corn.

This Recipe Serves 2

Ingredients

2 medium ears of corn, shucked
2 teaspoons olive oil
1 tablespoon best-quality Parmesan cheese
Salt and freshly ground pepper

Instructions

  1. Shuck corn, and wrap each ear in a damp paper towel.
  2. Place in ears on a dinner plate, and microwave on high 2 minutes. Turn corn over and microwave on high 1 ½ minutes.
  3. Remove paper towel, and rub corn with oil. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese over corn, add salt and pepper to taste, and serve.

Step Out!

Summer officially began this week but it’s not too early to turn your attention to our Step Out: Walk to End Diabetes in the fall. This year’s walk will be November 14th in Audubon Park. You are encouraged to put together a team to help raise money to support the American Diabetes Association.  You can register at www.diabetes.org/stepoutnola and  while you are there be sure to check out our great fundraising tips. There will also be fun post-walk activities, music, and  food. We hope you will be there!

Hooray for Dad!

Thank you to everyone who attended this year’s Father of the Year Awards dinner on June 19th at the New Orleans Hilton Riverside.  The American Diabetes Association and the Father’s Day Council honored four local fathers, Dr. Gerry Cvitanovich, Glen Golemi, Jim Remetich and Kenny Rabalais.  It was an emotional and memborable evening for the four fathers as each viewed a personalized family video and were presented with the Father of the Year Tribute Trophy.  Nominees are being accepted for next year’s awards if you know someone deserving of the honor please email omoriarty@diabetes.org

Our Father of the Year Awards dinner is just around the corner. We are looking forward to recognizing four terrific fathers who despite their busy work schedules always have time for their families. Tour de Cure a Success!

This past weekend was our Tour de Cure. We had over 400 registered riders out for the 100, 58, 50, 25 and 10 mile routes. We also had nearly 100 volunteers who helped us in a variety of aspects throughout the day. A big ‘thank you’ to those who made this day possible for our riders!
