Webster’s Dictionary defines procrastination as the practice of carrying out less urgent tasks in preference to more urgent ones, or doing more pleasurable things in place of less pleasurable ones, and thus putting off impending tasks to a later time, sometimes to the “last minute” before a deadline.
If we are honest, all of us procrastinate to some degree. Here are some tips to get yourself going on a project you’ve been putting off.
- You may be over estimating how much work the task will actually take and once your start it…you will usually keep going.
- Aim for a goal. Give yourself a small treat if you finish the project before a set time.
- Be accountable. Tell someone to check on your progress. Being held accountable could give you the motivation you need to jump in and finish!
- Work on one task at a time. Avoid all distractions until you are finished the project you are working on.
