Tour de Cure a Success!

This past weekend was our Tour de Cure. We had over 400 registered riders out for the 100, 58, 50, 25 and 10 mile routes. We also had nearly 100 volunteers who helped us in a variety of aspects throughout the day. A big ‘thank you’ to those who made this day possible for our riders! We will be uploading pictures on our Tour de Cure Facebook page (link here: https://www.facebook.com/tdclouisiana?fref=ts ) . All pictures courtesy of Jim Pennison. For questions about this year’s event or if you are interested in planning for next year, please reach out to Candace Cargo atccargo@diabetes.org.

Registration is still open, and will be open the day of the event. Consider pre-registering by visiting www.diabetes.org/biketourlouisiana

This week we want to include a team spotlight: The Wonder Walls! See below for a fun Q&A session we had with the Wall Family from Mandeville, LA!

Walls

Why do you ride?

The Tour de Cure, for us, is about celebrating our goals: beating diabetes year after year and working toward finding a cure for both of our children.  The day of the Tour de Cure is about fanfare and excitement with our friends and family, the diabetic community, and signifies another large leap toward eventual victory: A CURE!

How many years have you participated in the Tour de Cure?

This is our 4th year. Jackson, our original Red Rider, rode the entire 10 miles on his own bike when he was 5 years old. We rode for three years as the Jackson Five Team.  This year we ride with a new team name, The Wonder Walls, as we have added a second Red Rider to the team, Madelyn, Jackson’s little sister.

What is your favorite part of the Tour de Cure?

Our favorite part of the Tour de Cure is bringing our family in friends together for what we believe to be the best cause of all…a cure for diabetes.  It is about celebrating our goal, beating diabetes year after year, and working toward finding the cure for both of our children.

How many members are on your team?

Right not we have 7 members, but we never set a cap on our team size.  The more the merrier!!!

This year, Jackson, Madelyn, and the Wonder Walls have raised over $3,500 for the Louisiana Tour de Cure! Congrats on all of your success, and HAPPY RIDING!

Team Gladiators participated in their First Annual Family Gras Fundraiser by selling excellent food and promoting the Louisiana Tour de Cure. Through the 3 day weekend an estimated 75,000 people walked through Family Gras listening to bands and enjoying the culture. Through the weekend, the  Gladiators raised over $3000 to support the Louisiana Tour de Cure! A special thanks goes to Craig and Tiffany Clark who are the captains of the Gladiators, along with Wesley Mitchel and his two daughters, Eric Amerland and other team members – the  masterminds behind this wonderful fundraiser!
